Maruti Suzuki develops Asia's largest 20 MWp solar plant at its Manesar campus
With the installation of the 20 MWp solar power plant in Manesar, Maruti Suzuki's total solar power output capacity stands at 26,3 MWp.
The latest 20 MWp solar power plant from Maruti Suzuki is a carport-style structure with the smallest area per unit of electricity produced.
MSI has erected the largest 20 MegaWatt Peak (MWp) solar power plant in Asia at its manufacturing base in Manesar, Haryana. The solar plant will produce 28,000 MegaWatt Hours (MWH) of energy to the facility annually, which is comparable to 11.5% of the facility's total energy demand. This energy will allow the production facility to produce more than 67,000 automobiles annually.
Through this program, the automaker is aligning its efforts with the government's objective of utilizing renewable energy sources to make India prosperous. "The utilization of renewable energy is an urgent necessity. The company's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hisashi Takeuchi, stated that our efforts are focused on promoting decarbonization in order to reduce emissions.
With the installation of the 20 MWp solar power plant in Manesar, Maruti Suzuki's total solar power output capacity stands at 26,3 MWp. According to the company, this combined capability will prevent 20,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.
The indigenous manufacturer established its first 1 MWp solar energy plant at its Manesar facility in 2014, which was later increased to 1.3 MWp. In 2020, the company erected a 5 MWp carport-style solar photovoltaic power plant at its Gurugram site.
Thanks to the East-West orientation principle, the company's most recent 20 MWp carport-style solar power plant has the smallest area per unit of electricity generation. This method maximizes energy production while minimizing land usage. The Maruti plant in Manesar can accommodate up to 9,000 completed vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki's parent business, Suzuki Motor Corporation, is aiming to reduce carbon emissions from its products and manufacturing processes. Consequently, Maruti Suzuki India is aligned with this objective and dedicated to implementing eco-friendly procedures at its facilities.
