L&T to Develop Solar Projects with a Capacity of 280 MW in Rajasthan and Gujarat
Larsen & Toubro (L&T), an engineering firm, stated that it has been awarded a contract to create a 245MW solar energy project in Rajasthan. Additionally, it has been awarded a contract to construct a 35 MW (AC) photovoltaic capacity with a 57MWh battery energy storage system in Gujarat. The project would be headquartered in the district of Kutch.
Larsen & Toubro is India's largest multinational EPC solutions provider, and it has secured a number of significant orders for power transmission and distribution in other countries. The company has secured turnkey contracts in West Asia for the procurement and construction of shunt reactor substations.
These 132kV shunt reactors will contribute to India's electrical infrastructure. The infrastructure is expected to improve the availability, reliability, and efficiency of power.
L&T's Clean Energy Pursuit
L&T has reaffirmed its goal to achieve net-zero energy consumption by 2035 and stated that it is developing a four-pronged plan for sustainable energy consumption.
According to the organisation, it places a premium on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics such as climate stewardship, circular economy, green offerings, green supply chain, employee welfare, social welfare, and worker health and safety.
"L&T is committed to combining ESG goals with business objectives," says S N Subrahmanyan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of L&T. L&T has chosen a four-pronged carbon neutrality strategy that includes boosting energy efficiency, raising the share of eco-friendly fuels used, expanding the usage of renewable energy, and offsetting leftover greenhouse gas emissions through tree planting."
L&T has recently been successful in decarbonizing its processes in a variety of ways. In contrast to 2016, the corporation lowered its greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 4.5 percent in 2021. It supplied more than 10% of energy in 2016. L&T's campuses are illuminated by 21.2 million units generated by wind turbines.
According to the corporation, it harvested 2.6 million solar energy units on its campuses last year. And all of the coordinated efforts have resulted in the avoidance of 35,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
