Canadian Solar launches 420W rooftop solar module with 21.5% efficiency
The new device is based on 182mm wafers and is part of the company's HiKu6 series. It has a temperature coefficient of 0.34 percent and electrical characteristics that, according to the manufacturer, are compatible with the majority of photovoltaic inverters due to values less than 14A.
Canadian Solar, a Chinese-Canadian solar module manufacturer, announced the start of commercial production of the CS6R-MS module for rooftop photovoltaic applications.
The new device is based on 182mm wafers and is part of the company's HiKu6 series.
The 54-cell PERC module produces up to 420W and has a 21.5 percent efficiency of power conversion. "The CS6R-MS module is particularly well suited for rooftop solar applications due to its small module size (1.95 m2 x 30 mm), low weight (21.3 kg), and exceptional aesthetic design for a uniform appearance," the firm stated in a statement.
The module measures 1722x1134x30mm and has a 0.34 percent temperature coefficient. The product is covered by a 12-year guarantee and a 30-year performance warranty.
Canadian Solar stated that the CS6R-MS panel's electrical characteristics are compatible with the majority of solar inverters due to its current values of less than 14A. According to the product sheet, the module has a short-circuit current of 13.55 to 13.93A and an open-circuit voltage of 36.0 to 37.0V. The maximum voltage in the system is 1,500V.
Additionally, the panel is IP68-rated and has 3.2mm tempered glass with anti-reflective technology and an anodized aluminium frame.
"I am pleased to announce that we have begun mass production and delivered the first batch of 54-cell modules with a maximum output of 420 W based on 182 mm PERC cells," said Canadian Solar CEO Shwan Qu, adding that the company will begin mass production of new CS6R-MS heterojunction solar modules in April with a maximum efficiency of 22.5 percent and a maximum output of 440W.
Canadian Solar has begun mass manufacturing of a new solar module with a maximum output of 420W for residential and commercial and industrial (C&I) rooftop applications.
The member of the 'Solar Module Super League' began distributing the CS6R-MS, the latest model in its monofacial HiKu6 series, this month. The module is built on 182mm cells and has a module efficiency of up to 21.5 percent.
Due to its size (1.95m2 x 30 mm) and weight, the device is believed to be best suited for rooftop installations (21.3kg).
The module's claimed power output of 420W is 5–10W higher than comparable-sized modules on the market today.
"Our new products will significantly improve the energy yield and lower the levelized cost of ownership of residential, commercial, and industrial rooftop solar systems, while also enabling us to offset more CO2 emissions," said Shawn Qu, chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar.
Additionally, Qu stated that the firm anticipates beginning shipments of its n-type module with heterojunction cells next month. In April of last year, PV Tech reported that Canadian Solar was planning to release a heterojunction photovoltaic module in H2 2021.
